CyberGhost Review

With the wide range of server networks, CyberGhost is perhaps the largest service provider in the VPN market. It offers specialized servers for those who are looking for better streaming performance. All these features come at a very reasonable price. Read our first-hand experience with CyberGhost or click here to visit them online.

About CyberGhost

CyberGhost is an established brand, and unlike those who’ve established themselves in relatively obscure (but privacy-friendly) locations, it operates out of Bucharest, Romania. Being in business for a decade has seen CyberGhost really up the specifications on their VPN service.

Like some other brands in the VPN space, CyberGhost has decided to expand its product offering. Aside from the VPN service they started with, they now have a password manager and browser add ons for cookie cleaning.

They were an early adopter of the WireGuard protocol, which is a good part of the equation. Unfortunately, CyberGhost hasn’t seemed to improve the quality of service as much as it has rapidly expanded its network.

CyberGhost gives me mixed feelings, but that’s perhaps due to a personal preference in how things should be. WhiIe remain ambivalent about some of the features they offer, I’m sure there is an equal proportion of netizens who favor the way they do things.

Terrifying Network Reach

CyberGhost has Terrifying Network Reach
To the best of my knowledge, Cyberghost is the hands-down winner in the sheer size and scope of its server network. They operate a massive number (over 9,000+) in nearly half the countries in the world. Each of these has various capabilities, though; you can’t do everything on all servers/

Multiple Streaming Options

CyberGhost Supports Multiple Streaming Options
One thing CyberGhost does that I haven’t yet seen elsewhere is streamlining servers for specific sources. For example, for better HBO performance, they have a US server you can join for improved performance. It offers granular control over your VPN performance.

Nospy Servers; Something Unique

Nospy Servers; Something Unique
CyberGhost maintains a bunch of what it calls “Nospy servers,” all of which are located in Bucharest. Despite the exciting name, it’s a little misleading since those are, according to them, simply premium servers with better hardware and bandwidth.

CyberGhost Pros & Cons

CyberGhost Pros

  • Massive server network, perhaps the largest in the VPN market
  • Dedicated servers for multiple streaming services
  • Nospy premium servers claim to offer better performance
  • Offers slightly better than average money-back guarantee duration
  • Dedicated IP addresses available (billed separately)

CyberGhost Cons

  • Premiums servers only located in Romania
  • Lackluster speeds on several of their servers

Our Take on CyberGhost VPN

Given the way CyberGhost is set up, there’s no question about it. If you’re looking for access to multiple regions and locations, it is the king of kings. Operating thousands of servers in this number of locations is no mean feat and gives you wide choice in access.

The specialized streaming servers also offer a unique twist, with a better overall focus than simply catering to Netflix nerds like me. That said, if you’re incredibly fussy about speed and line consistency, CyberGhost may make you think twice.

Is CyberGhost Worth the Price?

CyberGhost pricing
You will get 4 months free if you sign up for CyberGhost 2-year plan with the price of $2.03/mo.

Despite its time in the market and massive growth, CyberGhost has retained a very reasonable price. It’s highly competitive, and you won’t find anyone else offering this scale of coverage for the price. It’s worth every penny to the right buyers.

CyberGhost Speed Tests

CyberGhost is undoubtedly able to perform well in speed tests but somewhat erratically. It can hit some decent speed limits, but not always. Our automated system runs ongoing tests 15 times a month from three separate locations each time.

The test connects to the fastest server as claimed by their algorithm. While this might not showcase consistency with competing brands, it does allow CyberGhost to display the full performance might of its service.

How To Setup CyberGhost On Your Devices

How To Setup CyberGhost On Your Devices
CyberGhost supports almost all platforms; just download the right app from their website

CyberGhost is easy to get running on almost all devices. The process isn’t any different compared to any other app for mainstream platforms, although you’ll need some technical knowledge if you’re doing a non-app-based implementation.

Overall Setup Process

  1. Visit the CyberGhost website and head to their download page
  2. Select the category of the platform, along with the specific one you need
  3. Download the installer, then launch it
  4. Once installed, simply run the app, and you can click to connect

Installing CyberGhost isn’t much of a challenge, even for those on Linux platforms. It has app-based installation for everything, so all you need to do is grab the installation file, run it, and follow their instructions.

There is almost no way something can go wrong, even if you’re doing this for the first time. Once run, though, you may need a fair amount of time to familiarize yourself with the many options within. Unless your only interest is a standard VPN connection, you’ll have to wade through all their server types to find what you need. Diversity isn’t always the best thing.

CyberGhost Windows Application

CyberGhost Windows Application

Windows users won’t feel much out of place with CyberGhost’s app. The only thing I need to highlight is to be sure to head to the settings and select WireGuard as your preferred protocol. I’m not sure what automatic selection will give you, but WireGuard speeds are the best.

CyberGhost macOS Application

CyberGhost macOS Application

Aside from the typically mac-ish buttons and a slightly nicer font, the macOS application is the same as others in usability. If you get used to one, you’ll be able to use CyberGhost seamlessly across all major platforms.
