Surfshark Review

I am highly impressed with what Surfshark has to offer! Its good network coverage, speeds, and cybersecurity technologies make them one of the top VPNs on my favorites list. Even with a small hike, it remains a top value-for-money choice. Read on for our experience and speed test results with Surfshark; or click here to visit them online.

Since I first tested their service, Surfshark is one Virtual Private Network (VPN) that has continually impressed me. It has steadily and reasonably rapidly expanded its network quality and coverage while maintaining a consistent price.

Surfshark hasn’t gone hog-wild crazy and expanded in every direction cybersecurity has to offer, unlike some competitors. It has retained a keen focus on just the VPN, adding critical new features and server locations.

They were not the earliest on board with WireGuard, and when they did, it was providing it “as is” without any additional flare. It’s worked for them, though and speeds on most Surfshark servers are excellent.

Feature Highlights

Pulling out feature highlights for Surfshark isn’t the easiest thing to do. It doesn’t go for “extras” but exemplifies how a VPN should perform. Speeds are fast, it works as advertised, and any additional features are related to the core VPN service.

Surfshark Offers Seamless Streaming on Netflix

Surfshark Offers Seamless Streaming on Netflix
I love Netflix; it gives me something to do in my downtime and when the door feels too far for my feet to travel. Yet my location lacks many Netflix movie titles due to licensing, so Surfshark helps me blow past those restrictions.

Surfshark Shows Stunning Speeds with WireGuard

Surfshark Shows Stunning Speeds with WireGuard
For a VPN that’s only around three years old, Surfshark has steadily expanded network coverage and added access to the WireGuard protocol. The result is eyebrow-raising speeds on most of their servers.

Get Access to Static IP Addresses

Get Access to Static IP Addresses
On occasion, you may find that some websites will be strict enough to demand access from the same IP address or IP range. That’s where Surfshark’s static IP addresses come in handy. There aren’t just a handful of them either, but lots to choose from.

Our Take on Surfshark

Surfshark Pros

  • Pricing helps make it one of the best value VPN brands around
  • Allows unlimited simultaneous device connections
  • Stunning speeds using WireGuard protocol
  • The recent move to RAM-only servers helps improve privacy and security
  • Camouflage Mode prevents websites from detecting VPN traffic
  • Fast-expanding network

Surfshark Cons

  • Not many frills alongside the core service
  • Linux installation is command-line only

Who Should Use Surfshark?

If you are looking for a pure VPN service provider without the side-frills that so many are introducing today, then Surfshark is your best choice. You won’t find fancy features here, but many necessities for VPNs are comprehensively covered.

It excels in the most vital areas a VPN should; good server network coverage, excellent speeds, camouflage to prevent websites from detecting it, and more. There are lots to love and very little about which to complain.

However, like many other VPNs, although Surfshark can support torrenting on its servers, it isn’t the best place to handle P2P.

Is Surfshark Worth the Price?

Surfshark pricing

Surfshark offers one of the most competitive-value deals of which I’m aware. This value is especially clear when you consider they are one of the only top brands that allows unlimited device connections per account. It’s a dream come true for price-conscious users. Even better is the fact that price hikes have been minimal so far.

Surfshark Speed Tests

Speed tests are run every two days for a total of 15 per month to assess Surfshark performance. Each test is performed from three different server locations while linked to the recommended server by Surfshark.

The timing allows for better consistency, while there is enough variation to prove overall capabilities in performance for different servers. Overall, it hasn’t let me down so far, but keep an eye on the graphs to see for yourself.

How To Setup Surfshark On Your Devices

How To Setup NordVPN On Your Devices
Surfshark supports the most common apps in the market.

Surfshark is supremely easy to install and use (as long as you aren’t a Linux user). There’s not much variation from other standard app installations, although you will probably have to give it a few more permission clicks if you are on macOS.

Overall Setup Process

  1. Visit the Surfshark’s app download page
  2. Choose the app for the platform you need and click the link
  3. From the app page, hit the “Download now” button and save the file
  4. Launch the installation file and follow the instructions provided
  5. Run the Surfshark app, and you’re ready to go

Surfshark is pretty much an install-and-use application. It will work perfectly fine without any changes to default settings. The app is smart enough to know what device it’s on and configure itself accordingly.

However, one thing of note is that the auto-selection of the fastest server isn’t that great. It typically chooses the nearest, which may be slower than others. I prefer a manual server selection; just remember to add that location to your list of favorites for convenience.

Surfshark Windows Application

There honestly isn’t much to shout about where Surfshark’s Windows app is concerned. The design is pretty neat, and you can see they’ve tried hard to keep it user-friendly. There is some use of VPN jargon, but that’s simply unavoidable.

Surfshark macOS Application

Aside from the rounded Mac corners, the Surfshark macOS app is almost the twin image of its Windows counterpart. If you’re using both platforms, the switch is more intuitive than most. Nothing to write home about, but it works.

Surfshark Is Great!

SurfShark offers very consistent speeds, fantastic pricing, and seamless streaming on Netflix. Some of you might have other requirements, but I believe in terms of basic performance and privacy, Surfshark hits the mark quite well.

One of the best VPNs

SurfShark is inexpensive, fast, reliable and I love the fact they do not limit the number of devices it can be installed on. It’s very easy to use and does exactly what it claims. I’ve used it many times overseas to access Netflix and my Youtube TV accounts. They have a serves all over the world that are easy to access. They also have a no logs policy for added security.

However in my experience – Some of their servers can be a bit slow at times. However, I just switch to another server and that takes care of the issue. Other than that, I can’t say anything negative. Streaming works fine along with solid customer service to answer questions.

Disconnects constantly 🙁

SurfShark is easy to use, works with chrome extension or desktop app on Mac. However my VPN connection disconnects all the time. Gives weird proxy error. Sometimes websites just fail to load. Doesn’t work across all websites. Not a lot of options as cities to select from.

An unblocks-everything, feature-packed VPN with a great starter price

Surfshark performance was variable during testing, but the service is stuffed advanced functionality, with likeable and easy-to-use apps, and it unblocked every one of our test platforms. A must for your VPN shortlist.

Surfshark is a low cost fully featured VPN option

I like that Surfshark is low cost and it is independent. I also like that it works well on the Linux command line. It works fine with OpenVPN and the browser plugin seems to be solid.

The one thing I dislike is that because it is mors of a niche VPN provider at this point there is less out of the box support for it in certain docker containers and whatnot. Once you do get it working as an OpenVPN provider it works just as well as any other, though.
